I have posted in the past (although not in the history of this latest Wordpress) about awful days of sports. Yesterday was the complete opposite of this with the following happening:
ISU losing at home to Kent State Thursday night
Everton winning against Bolton
Cubs beating the ASStros
Iowa beating NIU (I was there with 45,000 other Iowa fans, photos later to prove it)
Notre Dame getting skunked
But the best was when we heard rumblings at the Iowa game that Big Blue had lost to Appalachian State in the Big House. Unable to truly believe it until I saw it on ESPN last night that it was indeed true. It is really too wonderful to put into words, so I won’t even try. There is really only one thing to share with everyone, please enjoy!
I havn’t posted much recently because I had to reload my mac and havn’t reinstalled ecto yet and I have been too lazy to go to the web interface to post. That is in conjunction with having about a billion things going on with the house, the kitten and softball over the last two weeks. That being said, I have a few comments about stuff that has happened and is noteworthy.
The EPL started, besides Iowa football games, Saturday mornings are up for some debate as to start with college football or soccer now. Also, Everton won, so that is a bonus.
The new iLife is cool. Rebekah and I are getting used to the new Events thing in iPhoto, but we think we like it. We havn’t given iWeb a look yet, but we think it holds promise for some family sites we have.
Gas weed-wackers are tough on the arms if you are not used to them.
The 4400 continues to be one of the best shows that few people know about. If you like Heroes, then you owe it to yourself to get all of The 4400 and watch it.
It hasn’t been cloudy all weekend and has been very hot. With hours before a great meteor shower, it is cloudy.
54 holes of golf in 48 hours is always a good thing.
That kind of sums up the last couple of weeks. Posts will come faster now that my mac is up and going again and I am feeling motivated to post.
I have really gotten into soccer over the last year, so much so that I watched most of a Chicago Fire match last weekend that had no offense at all in it (other than the lack of quality play from both teams). While watching all this soccer, I have gotten interested in other leagues, specifically the MLS (kinda) and Serie A in Italy (it got picked up by FSC for this season). Is it wrong to cheer for teams in other leagues? I am a big Everton fan, but some other teams are fun to watch in other leagues so is it bad to cheer for them as long as they are not playing Everton? I am open to thoughts on this because soccer is not quite the distinction of different sports in the US, but also isn’t quite like cheering for two teams in the same sport. In any case, what do you think?
Last night I knew that Everton was going to be playing Columbus of the MLS, but I did not think it was televised anywhere I could see, so I had reserved myself to that fact.? After dinner last night, I did some flipping of the channels and to my delight the match was being shown on ESPN2, so I got to watch the entire thing.? I was pleased with some of the play of Everton, however there was a lot of the match where they looked like a team that was getting back into sync.? I cannot say I am pleased about the result with a 1-1 tie, however since Columbus has been playing for half of a season and it is still preseason for the EPL, I can accept the result.? Needless to say, this did get me just a little more excited for the beginning of the league.
Taking Sports Guy’s lead, I have decided to find myself an EPL team to dedicate my time to. As if I didn’t have enough sports going on with Iowa, the Bucs, Cubs, occasional Formula 1, I decided that I also need to start watching English Premier League Soccer. So after reading through his reviews of each team and doing minor investigative work myself, I have chosen to support Everton for this season. Any team that can be described as being similar to the Oakland A’s, I am OK with. Making it easy to follow the team, I have the main Everton RSS feed and the BBC Everton news loaded up in Shrook and have the Everton schedule saved on my del.icio.us account. Combine that with the Fox Soccer Channel and I should have some fun following my new favorite team.
This is the blog for Mark Ahrens, a web kinda guy living in Iowa. You will find posts about my life, technology and music, in addition to a sprinkling of other things as well.
