So I updated the Beer Resource Center and got up the last of the Paper Robots, so have a gander. On a different note, the Hawk win again and looked good beating up on Buffalo. Hopefully it leads to a good week of practice and going into Ames to pick up a win. Another good sign, the Cubs are playing well, now we just need the ASS-tros to lose a game or two. Hopefully the Cubs will take advantage of the easier schedule in September to get into the playoffs. Now if only work would slow down some, things would really start looking up.

  • I just read this…

"Prior (13-5) has dominated in five starts since coming off the 15-day disabled list from a bruised shoulder on Aug. 4. During that time he's 5-0 with two complete games and an 0.69 ERA (three earned runs in 39 innings), lowering his overall ERA to 2.47."

If Prior could keep similar stats up through the end of September, then the all star reliever who gave up the win for Kerry Wood in the All Star game won't win the Cy Young.

Well, I have combined the blog and news section into one big dealy, the comments section is gone, but updates to the Beer Resource Center have been added, so check it out. Also, for the people who missed it yesterday, I added a couple new Lego sets, so check those out too.

  • In Defense of Shawn Estes

While I will agree that Shawn Estes isn't the greatest pitcher in the game, he does have 7 wins for the Cubs this year. Now you can throw all sorts of stats about Shawn, say he is the worst in this category or that category, but in the one stat that really matters, he has 7 wins. Now some of you may claim that this stat only shows how much run support a pitcher can get, and there is some truth in this. But, I ask you to look at a comparision between the 5th starter for the Cubs last year, Jason Bere. Bere pitched for a team that scored the 11th most runs in the NL, the Cubs this year are 13th in runs scored. Bere's and Estes's ERAs are very similar as well. However, Estes is 7-10 right now, Bere finished at 1-10. Estes may not have the greatest stats, but he is winning more games in the 5th starter spot, and personally, I think this is more important that WHIP.

So, I have watched two specials on college football tonight and not once was Iowa mentioned. While this happened last year as well, it is a bit frustrating to hear Jeff Smoker named in a possible Heisman race and Fred Russell ignored. Iowa won't go 8-0 in the Big Ten again, but they will be good enough to make a bowl. Jeff Smoker hasn't shown that he can stop drinking booze and has lost Charles Rogers. Honestly, the media ignores Iowa, and I think that Iowa will surprise everyone again and have a 10-2 season, with Fred Russell not being injured and go to New York being in the top 5 in the Heisman race, very similar to Larry Johnson last year.
