An American’s Guide to Soccer

My interest with the beautiful game really started with the 2002 World Cup with waking up in the middle of the night for a match and headed to Quinton’s to watch the US/Germany match at 6 AM.  After the World Cup ended, I became more aware of club soccer and while home the Christmas after that, I found out about Fox Sports World and watched a Manchester United match.  At that point I was hooked, however I had no outlet to watch since I didn’t have Fox Sports World at home, so I waited and watched when I knew about something on ESPN until I found out Fox Sports World was renamed Fox Soccer Channel and was available for me.

The rest is history with the exception that it took awhile to figure out the difference between leagues, cups, national teams, etc.  To help out the new soccer fan in the US, I decided to write this guide to speed things along for you.  By no means will I go into the detail that something like the Wikipedia provides, but I will try to give you the major tpics, a little bit about them and a bunch of links to learn more if you want. If you have questions, corrections or clarifications, please email me at webmaster [at] marktopia [dot] net.  Enjoy!
