If you are looking for something totally different, I recommend this album. The Vitamin String Quartet does "covers" of some of the hits from Nirvana. These are all done as instrumentals only and only string instruments (as the name suggests). This is not for everyone, but for those of you that do like it, my guess is you will love it.

William James
Just a quick post to let everyone know that there will be a lull in album (and other) posts in the near future do to the birth of our first kid, William James. He was born March 16th at a weight of 8 lb, 7 oz and a height of 21 in. Here is a picture of him, with a whole collection of him at Flickr.

In Ghost Colours
In Ghost Colours by Cut Copy is another in the string of electronic albums that I have been checking out lately. Reminding me a little of Caribou but with a still unique style, this is an album that will treat you if you pay attention, but is still fantastic for background music. It is diverse enough in the sound that it will not bore you, which is also a nice thing. Hearts on Fire is a particularly strong track if you want to check out a song before getting the whole album.
Static Prevails
This is the Jimmy Eat World album before they got recognized which was before they hit it big. This is a quality late 90s emo album that brings a little less refined sound than the current Jimmy Eat World. If you are a fan of their work, I recommend checking this out so you can see where they got started. Listening to each of their albums in a row really shows that while they have grown some, they were pretty darn good to begin with too.
Dark Was the Night
A couple days later than usual, but still before the end of the week, I recommend this compilation of indie rock artists for the Red Hot Organization, which supports HIV and AIDS awareness. Not only this is for a good cause, but it is also a fantastic sampling of many of the artists I like listening to. You get The National, Bon Iver, Arcade Fire and Yo La Tengo, to name a few. 31 tracks total for this double album, I have a feeling this will become the No Alternative for the current age of music.
