The choice for this and the previous album by Okkervil River was a difficult one. They are actually rather similar sounds, themes and quality. Heck, even the length of album was just about the same. That being said, The National gets the nod for being just a little more polished and having a couple songs that made it stand out.

My personal favorite tracks is Start A War, however you wouldn’t go wrong choosing Fake Empire or Mistaken for Strangers as a top song. Similar to The Stage Names, this album ends a little soon for my liking, but it is a small knock against a quality album.
