13. Kayne West - Graduation
One of the few hip hop/rap albums I reviewed this year, it is the only one to qualify for the list. I wish I could say the entire album was great, but that is not the case. Luckily the best songs on the album are great and are enough to bring it up onto the list. There is the radio friendly Stronger, which is a great song, I just fear it will be played too much. Beyond that, two tracks that really stand out are Flashing Lights and Homecoming, the later featuring Chris Martin of Coldplay.
As I said, it isn’t all good news as there are the customary female belittling hip hop songs, such as Drunk and Hot Girls. Not only is the topic of that song disappointing, it also wastes the talents of Mos Def. However, the good out weighs the bad on the album and Stronger could pretty much carry the album by itself.
