  • Turkey and Web Developing

    3

I havn't written in awhile, so I thought I would post that I am alive and that I enjoyed Thanksgiving.¬? I am also working on the comics database.¬? Basically the more I mess with Rails, the more I like it, so it is taking my time right now.¬? I also am becoming less thrilled with the WordPress web page editor, so I am looking for suggestions on good desktop applications that handle blogging on a Mac.¬? Feel free to comment those suggestions, or don't.

UPDATE: It did hail here, now it won't melt because it is too close to freezing.¬? Then there is this awesome picture of severe weather in Iowa.

  • Rails Install

Since Rails is what the people asked for, Rails is what the people are gonna get.  I am starting work on the comic database and so the first step is to get Rails up and going on my local machine so I can do development easily.  I have started by using Locomotive, a very nice program that allows you to run a Rails server without configuring the system.  As I get further into the program, I think having the system actually configured to do Rails automatically is going to work better, so that is the big step for tonight.  After that, development and learning will commence.

  • iPod Battery Life

One of the agreements Rebekah and I made about some of the wedding gifts was to each get a better present for ourselves.  Rebekah chose a Kitchenaid mixer and I chose a new 80 GB iPod.  It has been about 4 years since I got my first iPod, so I have had a lot of fun tinkering with the new features, such as the photos and videos.  I also started messing with having my calendar on the iPod so I can have that with me as well with my only qualm being that the iPod does not show the location field when viewing an entry.  Last night I was checking on availability for an appointment, I must have accidentally hit play for music as I put the iPod away because when I checked the iPod this morning, it was playing still with the battery almost dead.  I was quite impressed that it had gotten 15 hours of constant music playback, so I decided to drain the battery and have kept listening all morning.  I am now at 17 hours straight and the iPod keeps trucking.  Color me impressed when compared to the old 8 hrs I got on my original iPod.
