With MarkandRebekah.net setup, we are deciding on the best way to manage our photos. We are looking at a locally hosted solution vs. Flickr because we have a ton of space now and we can manage the look and feel of the pages. I do like Flickr and we will keep using for now even though my Pro account expires tomorrow, but something local will give us more flexibility. I have started looking at programs such as Gallery and Coppermine, but I am open to other suggestions. The big feature I am looking for is tagging or keywords to organize based on that as well as albums in addition to being easy to edit the CSS for the program. Gallery2 has the tagging as part of that in their nightly builds right now, but if anyone has other suggestions or pleas to keep using Flickr, feel free to comment.

Home, Mostly
Rebekah and I got back from our honeymoon yesterday with almost everything.¬? Our luggage is still somewhere between Disney World's Caribbean Beach Resort and the Eastern Iowa Airport.¬? This would normally not be a big deal, some clothes and toiletries missing, however we did a fair amount of shopping for ourselves and Christmas.¬? While we are holding out hope for our luggage, it is depressing thinking that souvenirs of our first vacation together might be sitting in some warehouse never to be seen by us again.¬? It may not seem like much to everyone else, but it has gotten us both down today and we both are anxious to hear something.¬? Gifts and trinkets are still part of our memories and to have that taken away from us is tough for us to swallow.

New Sites
As you may have noticed, there is a new look to Marktopia once again.¬? I figured a nice new clean look before the wedding would be nice, and it is something to distract from the wedding planning as things are starting to pick up some.¬? It also means that with a new design, after the wedding I can start working on the comics database.¬? I have been scouting for a good database example for Rails and most have small bits and pieces.¬? What I am really looking for is a good example of a has_many_and_belongs_to and how to use it for the admin view.
In addition to the new Marktopia look, there is a new site just in time for the wedding called markandrebekah.net.¬? Since we got a free domain with our new host, we decided a combo domain where we will be able to host our pictures would be good.¬? Rebekah did the design for markandrebekah.net so kudos to her.¬? She is also going to be styling the photo program we will use on the site.¬? I am looking at Gallery2, especially since the nightly builds are including a tagging/keyword feature.¬? If anyone is aware of a php photo album that does tagging, feel free to comment about it so we can check it out.

Web Hosting Change
Just a quick note, to save money overall Rebekah and I are consolidating our web hosting to a single account.¬? Because of the rave reviews, I gave Dreamhost a look and I was sucked in by the 200 GB of space and 2 TB (yes TB) of bandwidth per month.¬? My site is all moved over so the next step is to get Urbanfarmgirl moved over and then deciding on what we want our combined domain name will be.¬? We are open to comments, although all will be taken with a grain of salt.

Hi, my name is Mark and I am a Google addict
I am openly admitting it, I am a Google addict.? I came to that realization tonight while looking at Google Reader.? It isn't perfect, but I kept thinking of reasons I should use that instead of the wonderful Shrook.? I don't think I am dropping Shrook anytime soon, but I might export the OMPL file to give Google Reader a test.? And that is where Google keeps winning me over, they make it easy enough for me to try something. They got me in the door with Gmail, now I just keep adding different services to my Google account.? There are some on there, such as Google Base and Google Page Creator, that I used once and never tried again.? But then there are things like Writely and Spreadsheets that I have come back to recently to see what improvements have been made.? They have figured out how to keep a web junkie like me interested in one company for a long time.? Oh yeah, there was that YouTube thing today also. Now if only Picasa Web Albums supported geotagging with Google Maps, I would consider switching from Flickr.
