  • Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2

    3

Taking a page out of Ben's book, I have decided to post about technology, specifically Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2.? Publicly released today, IE7B2 (for short) finally offers some competition to my longtime browser of choice, Firefox.? With some longtime needed features, such as tabbed browsing and support for RSS, Internet Explorer has moved into the modern day.? I have yet to do any hardcore testing of the CSS support, but that is also supposed to be better.? As big of a Firefox fan as I am, it was mainly because IE was so far behind, I was "forced" to switch.? I am not opposed to IE and if IE7 makes enough changes so I do not miss Firefox, I have no problem using it.? I have added some screen shots below, click on each of them for a larger view or go to the Screen Shots set on flickr to get them all easily

  • The New Fish Tank

    0

Recently Rebekah's dad, Jim, was kind enough to gift us one of his old fish tanks, a 42 gallon tank with matching stand. After the last fish experiment, I was a little hesitant with fears of Coralville's water just being too harsh for fish. Jim reassured me that it was the size of the original tank that made things difficult and that this one would be much easier, so I trusted him. After getting the tank setup, the water was crystal clear and stayed that way, so all we needed was some fish. Yesterday Jim stopped by on his way to Cedar Falls with 2 rosy barbs, 2 green cory cats and 3 panda cory cats, all of which are alive and well a day after. The cory cats are pretty cool to watch, most of the time they are bottom feeders, but sometimes they dart to the top and quickly back down. I tried my best to take a picture of the tank, some of which are posted on my Flickr account, with my favorite shown below.

  • Meta Math! : The Quest for Omega

    0

Meta Math CoverMeta Math by Gregory Chaiton will be intimidating for most non-math folks. This is not a put down by any means, I strugged to get through a fair number of parts of the book and I have a degree in the subject. The very basic idea of the book is that there are some things that formalized math will simply not be able to explain, and this is fine and in fact good. That is the philosophical part of the book and makes up about 5% of it. The rest are mathematical explainations to concepts such as randomness and uniqueness and finding proofs to incompleteness theories. This gift was a surprise and a pleasant one at that. I am not sure exactly how Rebekah's mom found out about this book in the first place, but I am glad she did.

  • Cellular

At less than an hour and a half, this movie starts going less than 5 minutes in and keeps going until the end. A "thriller" where a kidnapped woman manages to contact a random cell phone user and has him help with her escape. The story just keeps getting more elaborate from there until a decent ending that actually manages to wrap things up nicely. There is an attempt to throw some humor in occasionally, which was interesting, however a bit confusing in a rather serious movie. Overall, it was good for a movie that was less than 90 minutes long.

  • Best of SNL – Will Ferrell – Volume 2

    1

I enjoy Will Ferrell and purchased the first volume, so I thought it would be worth checking out the second one. I was disappointed there was no second Celebrity Jeopardy, and I thought that some of the scenes were not some of his top work. If you enjoyed Will Ferrell on SNL, I would recommend the first volume, but you probably don't need the second one.
