  • Big Fish

    0

Another quick review due to the fact I saw both Big Fish and Sideways Friday when I was sick. Between the two, I liked Big Fish a lot more. A little bit more upbeat, stylish and a better story in my opinion. I am glad I didn't watch Big Fish first as I would have probably been more disappointed with Sideways. Big Fish tells the story of a man through the stories of his life. While the end was a bit predictable, the ride to the end is a lot of fun. Tim Burton did a good job of interjecting his style of film without letting it go overboard.

  • Sideways

Sideways is an odd, but mildly entertaining film. There were some parts I actually fast forwarded due to the awkwardness of them, but all in all it was good. Paul Giamatti played the role of Miles well. The wine afficiando whom tries to show his buddy a good time on a trip before he gets married runs into trouble throughout as Jack has a different idea of what would be a good time. I can't say too much about the film just because it doesn't go too deep, but it still entertained and was a bit different than the normal drama-edy.

  • The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

I should start this with the fact that Bill Murray, in my opinion, is the funniest man alive. Combine that with Wes Anderson putting Murray in a staring role and I had high expectations for this film. Most of these were reached, however I think the movie could have been about a half hour shorter and it would have been great. The plot was the typically strange story from Wes Anderson, so if you enjoy his other films (Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums, etc), you will probably enjoy this film too. There were some definite laugh out loud (LOL for those familiar with computers) moments and is well worth a rental. I just felt that the movie tended to drag on a bit at times. All in all, worth a watch, especially for Wes Anderson fans.

  • Finding Neverland

I have signed up for Netflix once again and with that comes more reviews of movies! I am getting some movies that I have seen before now, so the reviews may not be as quick now, but I will post reviews of new movies to me. First up is Finding Neverland.

I thought this was a Peter Pan rip off or redo of the Peter Pan story before seeing it, so I was pleasantly surprised to have it be a dramatization of how the play was written. Johnny Depp gives another great performance and is accompanied by Kate Winslet, who appears to only pick good roles. Normally I am not a huge fan of movies with lots of child actors because it only takes one bad one to ruin a film, however all of the kids in this movie perform admirably and actually add to the film. For someone who wasn't sure what he was getting himself into, I really enjoyed this film

  • I have a fiance too!!!

As you may have read on Rebekah's post we are now engaged to be married. She has most of the details on her blog, so I won't go into those, you can read them there. I will say that my sneaky plan to propose to her went off without a hitch, she still thought I had to talk to her dad for permission. I snuck that in last Sunday when she was visiting with Victoria, then I was able to get the ring on Thursday over lunch without her knowing. We are both quite excited and starting to realize that the work has just begun for the wedding. When more details are available, we will pass them along.
