  • MyTungsten Review: Tony Hawk’s Underground

    0

Tony Hawk's Underground is the 5th game in the Tony Hawk series. This new game takes the series in a new direction however. Whereas the first 4 games had no real story, just goals to accomplish to open new levels and characters, Tony Hawk's Underground (THUG) introduces the story mode for the first time. You start out as a kid in New Jersey, trying to make your way up through the skateboard world to become a pro. The story isn't going to keep you up nights in suspense, but it is nice to have a reason to move onto the next level as opposed to having completed 12 goals.

Since I own a PS2, I also get all of the added features, including online play and the ability to "put my face into the game." Although it sounds corny, uploading your face into the game is a neat novelty. The end result isn't perfect, but with a little work, you can get it to look like you without any problems. The online play is well done again, this time using Gamespy as the backend. The game's challenges are definately more difficult than the previous games, (although it may be that I am playing on the most difficult level) but that means that the game will definately last for awhile. I would highly recommend this game to both experienced Tony Hawkers and newbies.

I have added a couple new beers, changed the look, and deleted some links to older, not updated sections to clean stuff up.

  • Panther: OS 10.3

So tomorrow is the release of the updated Mac OS, and I am a bit torn by it. Well, not that much, since I don't own a Mac and don't have to worry about updating, but that is besides the point. But since OS X came out, this is the third revision, meaning if you went from 10 to 10.1 to 10.2 to 10.3, you will spend over 400 dollars. You are welcome to make the argument that you don't need to upgrade if you don't want, but don't have 10.2 installed and let me know how many programs will run under that for you. No doubt, 10.3 will have a similar effect, and understandably so. Programmers want to take advantage of the updates in 10.3, it just means that you have to get the update one year after you shelled out $129 bucks for 10.2

Now there are a number of new features in 10.3, such as Expose, the redesigned Finder and the secure Home folder, but I question if they are worth the $129 they are charging. I have played around with 10.3 for about a week now and I personally have only found Expose to be that interesting. I suppose it isn't fair since I don't use a Mac primarily, but the new Finder doesn't seem like a big deal to me. The search speed is quick, but how often do you really search for a file? The bottom line is that OS 10 is fairly polished now, it doesn't need the performance tweeks that it needed between 10, 10.1 and 10.2, so a lot of the additions are purely cosmetic. Personally, I couldn't see being happy having to pay $129 bucks for some cosmetic changes.

    Kids Play

For some reason I like to torture myself on how old I am getting. This helps prove that I am not nearly as "with it" as I used to be. Also, some of the things these kids say are pretty damn funny.

  • The Cubs Series

I have waited for the Cubs series to be completed before updating the blog here, now that it is done, I must say, baseball is a crazy game. Game 6 most definately was some of the worst feelings I have felt in my life. You can blame whomever, but that was the point in my life that will make me a Cubs fan forever. I wasn't old enough for 84, and I don't remember 89 much, so this is the first real heartbreak I have experienced with them.

Everyone said after Game 5 that this isnt the same Cubs, Prior and Wood can't both be beaten at home. I was sceptical I hate to say it, but that is cause I have known the Cubs for awhile now. It isn't a bad thing, it will just make it that much better when/if it ever happen. But this is why you stick with it, because you will feel the pain the players do.

But we can all remember that this year was amazing. We all thought the Cubs had a chance to do something like this, but we all wondered. We won the division and won a playoff series. If we got it all this year, what could we look forward to next year. We get most of the team back, and hopefully some better middle relief and see some youngers play. So instead of dwelling on this series, remember the whole season. If you are Cubs fan, you know you might not see one like it for awhile.
